LCF In The News
19-25 May 2013 is Education Week in Victoria and we're so excited with the theme this year - Languages - Expand their world!
In a state where over 40 percent of the population have at least one parent born outside of Australia and where more than 200 languages are spoken, Victoria is a dynamic, multicultural community which understands the enormous benefits for children who are engaged in learning a second, or third, language.
Our Victorian FUN language clubs for kids have been sharing ideas and opportunities with Primary Schools and Kindergartens to celebrate Education Week this year and we're delighted to be showcasing the importance and lifelong benefits of children learning a second language as part of their education journey.

Sunday 5 May to Saturday 11 May is State Education Week in Queensland!
The annual week-long celebration is an opportunity to recognise the talent and achievements of students and teachers in state schools, and showcase their wonderful work to the wider community. Schools across Queensland will celebrate the week by opening their doors to the community.
Mandarin for Kids, a bright future in a big world!
Parents in Bendigo were thrilled to learn this term that their preschoolers were passing a significant milestone in their quest for Mandarin bilingualism.
Maggie, our Bendigo "Mandarin for Kids" teacher is moving the preschooler Mandarin clubs onto simple sentences. We've been learning lots of basic vocabulary over the past 12 months, nouns, verbs and tones. Bendigo kids have had a fantastic time practicing these Chinese 'words' in games, songs, craft and little role-plays.
We've performed our Tiger song for parents, made lots of origami, created body parts murals, played with dress up dolls, played angry birds swap card games in Chinese, learnt the Chinese version of 'paper rock scissors' game and played pretend 'shopping' games with shopping trays and baskets.....
We recently offered parents the opportunity for one lucky linguist to begin a new journey to the wonderful world of languages, with a competition to win a term's worth of pre-school FUN language lessons. Today, we're delighted to announce that our winner is ....
Suzie Elovalis from Perth, WA.
Suzie's 'lucky little linguist' will soon be joining LCF Fun Languages under the wing of one of our Perth club managers, Audrey Brink. Audrey is one of our newest club managers and is delighted to be offering FUN language lessons for kids in the Perth region.
Vist Audrey's webpage here for more information on her clubs.
If you would like a no obligation FREE TRIAL lesson please complete the online request form here.
And thank you to those that entered the competition.
... and we need your vote!
LCF Fun Languages are thrilled to announce that we have received enough online nominations to go through to the national voting stage in the 2013 What's On 4 Junior Awards in the “Best National School Aged Activity” category for our Fun Languages for Kids clubs!

With Fun Language clubs for kids age 2-12 years now in six states across Australia - and growing all the time - we are delighted that so many of you share our passion for languages. So, if you know and love us, please take two minutes to vote for us now! You can register your vote from the 18th March to 28th May 2013 by visiting the What’s on 4 Junior Awards voting page.
Thanks once again for your 'vote of confidence' in LCF Fun Languages
The recent LCF Fun Languages launch in Perth was a great success and we are quietly confident that there will soon be a many more "little linguists" running around the city.
Our friends from Weekend Notes were there to report back on all the FUN and games and have written this wonderful article about our "Introduction to French for Kids clubs" at The Language Centre Bookshop in Leederville.

"It was an absolute pleasure to watch children, aged 2-4, enjoying learning French. With songs, games and playful interactions the children were learning, within minutes, how to speak French with smiles on their faces. All eyes were on Nickie as she spoke to the children with such an energy - it was hard not to join in on the fun as well."

Ancient Chinese legends tell of the “Nian”, a man-eating beast from the mountains which came out every winter to feast on human flesh. To scare the “Nian” away, the people used loud noises such as firecrackers and fireworks, and bright colours, particularly red. This practice eventually became an annual custom which led to the first New Year celebrations.
Join our FREE Chinese New Year activities to learn more about the Chinese New Year and appreciation of the Chinese culture. Plus you learn some Chinese words including festival greetings.
