19-25 May 2013 is Education Week in Victoria and we're so excited with the theme this year - Languages - Expand their world!

In a state where over 40 percent of the population have at least one parent born outside of Australia and where more than 200 languages are spoken, Victoria is a dynamic, multicultural community which understands the enormous benefits for children who are engaged in learning a second, or third, language.

Our Victorian FUN language clubs for kids have been sharing ideas and opportunities with Primary Schools and Kindergartens to celebrate Education Week this year and we're delighted to be showcasing the importance and lifelong benefits of children learning a second language as part of their education journey.

Exciting next step for Bendigo's Mandarin for Kids clubs

Mandarinbendigo03132 opt

Parents in Bendigo were thrilled to learn this term that their preschoolers were passing a significant milestone in their quest for Mandarin bilingualism.

Maggie, our Bendigo "Mandarin for Kids" teacher is moving the preschooler Mandarin clubs onto simple sentences. We've been learning lots of basic vocabulary over the past 12 months, nouns, verbs and tones. Bendigo kids have had a fantastic time practicing these Chinese 'words' in games, songs, craft and little role-plays.

We've performed our Tiger song for parents, made lots of origami, created body parts murals, played with dress up dolls, played angry birds swap card games in Chinese, learnt the Chinese version of 'paper rock scissors' game and played pretend 'shopping' games with shopping trays and baskets.....

Perth Launch is a great success!

The recent LCF Fun Languages launch in Perth was a great success and we are quietly confident that there will soon be a many more "little linguists" running around the city.

Our friends from Weekend Notes were there to report back on all the FUN and games and have written this wonderful article about our "Introduction to French for Kids clubs" at The Language Centre Bookshop in Leederville.

"It was an absolute pleasure to watch children, aged 2-4, enjoying learning French. With songs, games and playful interactions the children were learning, within minutes, how to speak French with smiles on their faces. All eyes were on Nickie as she spoke to the children with such an energy - it was hard not to join in on the fun as well."

Ancient Chinese legends tell of the “Nian”, a man-eating beast from the mountains which came out every winter to feast on human flesh. To scare the “Nian” away, the people used loud noises such as firecrackers and fireworks, and bright colours, particularly red. This practice eventually became an annual custom which led to the first New Year celebrations.

Join our FREE Chinese New Year activities to learn more about the Chinese New Year and appreciation of the Chinese culture. Plus you learn some Chinese words including festival greetings.
